There are several records for Buttrey men in the Library of Virginia catalog in addition to the military records for William. The other William record is an estate/probate matter in Northampton County . That William Buttery is too old to have been the same William who served in the Revolution but he might be a grandfather. Colonial Deaths, Northampton County, compiled by Jean M. Mihalyka Buttery, William - died shortly before Oct. 1727. Court Records, packet 13 "Robins v. Buttery; Order book 18:325 Abstracts of the WIlls and Administrations of Northampton County Virginia 1632-1802, complied by James H. Marshall, p.253 Buttery, William - 11 June 1728 sheriff to sell the estate - p.331 The Library of Va catalog also has references to Buttreys in the Virginia Colonial records and Land Patent Records. Some of those records are digitized and can be viewed and printed online. Look for these: In Va Colonial Records: George Buttry (merchant) 1634, Chancery Patent Rolls, 10 Charles 1 Peter Buttery,1676, master of ship the St. George. Port books, Port of London, Coastal Trade. Then, in Va. Land Patent Records: Adam Buttry, deceased, is mentioned in a 1738 Goochland county land patent for title of John Johnson. Adam's land adjoined the lands described in this record. (Goochland Co. later became part of Amherst Co. There were Butterys from Amherst Co. Jemima Buttery from Amherst Co. married in 1790. The marriage record mentions the surety for her marriage, Robert Buttery,and her mother, Sarah Buttery. The record of Jemimas marriage is not in the Library of Va catalog)

District of Connecticutt On this 2 day of April 1818 William Buttery of Wilton in said District _______-_____ declares before Pierpont [Edwards] District Judge of the United States for the District of Connecticutt in which District the declarant now resides and for more Thirty years hast part both resided That in the month of December in the year seventeen hundred and seventy seven he enlisted into the service of the United States as a private in the --th company commanded by a Captain Gray in Colonel Stephen Moylans Regiment of Light Dragoons in the Pennsylvania Line on the Continental establishment of the armies of the United States in the [year] of the Revolution for the term of three years the declarant faithfully served out in said company and regiment in said line on said establishment of said armies in said [year] when he was from said service honorably discharged but which discharge he hath by time and accident lost And the declarant further maketh oath that He now is and ever since the declaration of independence Hath been a resident citizen of the United States and That by reason of his reduced circumstances in life he Is in need of assistance from his Country for his support.
